Server Testing and Outages Empty Server Testing and Outages

Post  Admin Mon Dec 05, 2011 10:32 am

Over the next several days, there will be some server outages as I do some testing.

Although lag is not as much trouble as before, it is still present, and seems to be increasing as the server map grows.

On Thursday, the server was 179MB in size. As I type this the server is 436MB in size.

On the weekend I created a RAM disk (1GB in size) to cope with the read/write speeds required, and this solved most lag issues. But lag is back, and I can quickly see the 1GB of RAM Disk being eaten by the server.

So testing that will be done will include:
- testing on my old Intel Core 2 Duo 3.16GHz, 4GB RAM DDR2 (currently using AMD Phenom 4 Quad Core 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM DDR2). I have learned that Minecraft Server uses only one core, so 3.14GHz should work faster than 2.8GHz. In addition, the Core 2 motherboard has 4 RAM slots, so I may get 8GB RAM in it (in time).
- other minor settings.
